Housing Choice Voucher

SMHA’s Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program provides vouchers to qualified applicants to use in the private market for landlords willing to accept the voucher. The Housing Authority (HA) pays a portion of the rent based on the applicant’s income directly to the landlord. The tenant would then be responsible for the remaining portion.

SMHA receives federal aid from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to administer the HCV program in the Clark and Champaign counties of Ohio.

One of the advantages of participating in the HCV program is having more options to choose from for low-income housing. Qualified applicants can refer to a list of landlords provided by SMHA or search on their own. You can also visit the Affordable Housing website (formerly known as GoSection8) at https://www.affordablehousing.com to search for rentals in the area you are looking for.

To apply for housing through our HCV program, please visit our Apply for Housing webpage here . Review the FAQ for the list of eligibility requirements and supporting documentation needed for your application.
